How To: Dicing Onions

Slice the onion in half from pole to pole before removing the skin. The skin tends to come off more easily after you have sliced the onion.Slice off the tip end of the onion, but leave the root on the other end intact.Rest one half of the onion cut-side down and make several horizontal slices nearly to the root end.Make vertical slices perpendicular to the horizontal slices nearly all the way through. Finally, turn the onion 90 degrees and chop across the slices, creating a fairly even dice. You can go back over the chopped onion again if you need a finer dice.Another quick-dice method involves cutting the onion into quarters first.Begin by making vertical slices nearly all the way through one quarter.Roll the sliced quarter over and make vertical slices again, perpendicular to the original cuts.Rotate the onion 90 degrees to finish the dice.
