Frequently Asked Questions

General

Q. Is there a limit on the number of photos that I can upload? (top)
During our beta period, we are currently not enforcing a limit on the number of photos or the amount of storage. In the future, we may charge for subscriptions and/or limit uploads and storage.
Q. How does Photosleeve keep my photos safe? (top)
Photosleeve keeps your photos safe in several ways. First, Photosleeve Uploader helps you copy photos from your camera so they don’t get left on your memory card. Second, the full-size copies of your photos are uploaded, so that you can download them to your computer if you ever lose them. Third, once your photos are on Photosleeve, we keep copies of them at different locations, just in case.
Q. Can friends and family view my photos? (top)
After you upload photos, you’ll receive an email containing the photos that you can share by forwarding it to friends and family. You can also tell your friends and family to go to http://www.photosleeve.com/user/username in their web browser. Just replace username with the username you chose during registration. If you Sign in and then visit the FAQ again, we’ll give you the correct link.
Q. What do you mean by “original” photo? (top)
An “original” photo is the full-size high resolution photo taken by your camera, not a smaller copy of the photo. It is important to keep these high resolution photos, since they are the most accurate representation of the photo and should be used for printing. When you choose to upload originals, Photosleeve will take care of creating smaller versions to upload first. Once you've got your initial email you're free to start sharing. Only then will we upload the big files.
Q. What do you mean by “original not available”? (top)
This means that we have a smaller size of the photo, but have not received the original full-size photo. To fix this, plug in the camera or select the folder that has the photo, so that we can preserve your photo. To make sure you have uploaded all of your originals, you can view your list of photos without originals.

Accounts

Q. How do I change my password? (top)
You can change your password by going to Change Password.
Q. How do I delete my account? (top)
If you want to delete your account, please email us at support@photosleeve.com using the email address associated with you account. Also, please let us know what we could have done to make you stay.

Photosleeve Uploader

Q. What is Photosleeve Uploader? (top)
Photosleeve Uploader is an application that runs on your computer. When you plug in a camera or select a folder, it quickly uploads your photos so that you can start sharing right away. Then in the background it uploads your originals for safe-keeping. We like to think of it as the fastest and simplest way to share your photos on the web.
Q. What type of computer and software do I need to run Photosleeve Uploader? (top)
Photosleeve Uploader runs on Windows XP and Vista (x86). You can always upload through the site using the “Add Photos” link, even if you don’t have Windows.
Q. How do I use Photosleeve Uploader? (top)
After you install Photosleeve Uploader, you don’t need to do that much (really). Just plug in your camera and click on the balloon that pops up. Then click the “Share” button. Alternatively, right-click on the Photosleeve Uploader icon, and select “Upload Folder.” On the Photosleeve Uploader page, we walk through sharing photos from a camera, memory card, or your computer.
Q. The Photosleeve Uploader icon disappeared. How do I get it back? (top)
There are a couple of possibilities.
  • Windows may have chosen to hide the Photosleeve icon because the program is “inactive”. To check if this is a problem:
  1. Look for a “<<” symbol on the left hand side of the lower-right area where the icon normally appears (that’s called the tray).
  2. Click the “<<” and all of the icons in the tray will be briefly revealed, including the hidden ones. This should let you access the Photosleeve icon. If it doesn’t show up there, go on to the next bullet point.
  3. If that was the problem and you want to change your settings so that the Photosleeve icon is always visible:
  1. Right-click on your task bar (the big blue area just to the left of tray where you expect the icon to appear).
  2. Click on “Properties”.
  3. You should see a checkbox called “Hide inactive icons” with a “Customize” button next to it. Click on “Customize”.
  4. There will be a big list of all the icons that have ever been in your tray before. One of them should be called “photosleeve.com”. If you click on it you can change the behavior from “Hide when inactive” to “Always show”.
  • If the icon didn’t show up when you clicked on the “<<” symbol, the Photosleeve Uploader program is likely not running. You can run it:
  1. Click your start menu.
  2. Highlight “All Programs”.
  3. Look for a folder called “Photosleeve”. If you don't find that folder, go on to the next bullet point.
  4. Highlight the “Photosleeve” folder and click the “Photosleeve Uploader” icon.
  • If there’s no “Photosleeve” folder inside the “All Programs” list in your start menu, the Photosleeve Uploader may have been uninstalled. You can reinstall it from http://www.photosleeve.com/uploader.
